Auto -- > Chevrolet - Evanda/Epica/Magnus

The Daewoo Magnus is a mid-sized sedan sold by GM Daewoo positioned to compete with the Hyundai Sonata. It is manufactured in South Korea for GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) by Daewoo Incheon Motor Company at its Bupyeong facility.

The previous-generation model was the Daewoo Leganza (model V100); it was produced from the 1997 to 2002 model years. The Leganza provided the basis for the current Daewoo Magnus (V200), which has been in production since the 2000 model year and was known as Evanda in Europe. Following the establishment of Chevrolet Europe, all Daewoos were rebranded Chevrolet in 2005.

The Evanda comes equipped with the Daewoo developed "XK6" inline-6 engine or a Holden-built 2.0L straight-four carried over from the Leganza. ItalDesign of Italy was resposible for the styling and design of both the Leganza and Magnus. However, the upcoming V250 was styled in Korea by GM Daewoo.

The Evanda is also badge-engineered as the Suzuki Verona in North America and Chevrolet Epica in other markets.

An updated Evanda (V250) will be sold from 2006, which may also be sold by Holden as a replacement for the Opel-sourced Vectra.

The Chevrolet Epica is sold in Canada in two trim levels, the LS and LT. Both have (for model year 2005) a 2.5 liter inline six cylinder DOHC 4 valve per cylinder engine developing 155 horsepower at 5800 RPM, and 177 ft·lbf of torque at 4000 RPM, driving the front wheels through an electronically controlled four speed automatic transmission. The car is positioned as an economical luxury entry, with the LS model equipped with 8 way power seat, 15 inch alloy wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and CD player. The LT version adds traction control, ABS, and sunroof, all also optional for the LS model. The car is 187.8 inches (4770 mm) long on a 106.3 inch (2700 mm) wheelbase, 71.5 inches (1815 mm) wide, 57.1 inches (1450 mm) high, and weighs 3380 lb (1533 kg). Base price is $24,710 (Canadian) for the LS and $27,400 (Canadian) for the LT.

The Chevrolet Epica is also sold as such in Chile, but is going to be replaced later during 2006 in this market for the brazilian made Chevrolet Vectra.

Chevrolet

Chevrolet, or Chevy, is a brand of automobile, now part of General Motors. The founder, Louis Chevrolet, was a racing driver. On November 3, 1911, Chevrolet entered the automobile market to compete with the Ford Model T. Chevrolet first used its 'bowtie' logo in 1913. In 1916, Chevrolet was profitable enough to buy a majority of shares in GM. By 1963, one out of every ten cars sold in the United States was a Chevrolet.

In markets outside North America, the Chevrolet brand name has been used on other GM models. In South America, the Chevrolet Opala was based on the German Opel Rekord from the late 1960s. Chevrolet's product line-up in South America now comprises some exclusive designs like the Celta, the Astra, and a brand new, Brazilian designed Vectra based on the current Opel Astra, while the current Corsa is built and the Omega name is now used on the Holden Commodore.

In South Africa Chevrolets were CKD kits of American Chevys assembled in their plant in Port Elizabeth. However, since South Africa was RHD and the US was LHD, plus encouragement by the South African government to use local content, Chevrolets such as the Biscayne were eventually made entirely in South Africa. In 2001, the Chevrolet name made a comeback, used on the Lumina, a rebadged Holden Commodore, and later on, on the Daewoo range of cars.

In 2005 models from Daewoo were rebranded as Chevrolet in Europe, although the Daewoo name will be retained in South Korea, Vietnam and some other world markets. In the rest of the world, most Daewoo models wore the Chevrolet badge since 2003. Exceptions include the use of the Suzuki badge in the US and Canada, the Pontiac badge in Canada, and the Buick badge in China for certain Daewoo models. The 2007 Chevrolet Captiva crossover SUV will be the first Europe-only model for the marque.

The Holden Commodore is badged as the Chevrolet Lumina in Thailand and the Middle East, as well as South Africa.
