Auto -- > Hyundai - Azera/Grandeur TG

The Hyundai Azera is a premium car produced for the 2006 model year. It is the North American export version of the Hyundai Grandeur. The Azera replaced the XG350 and shares many of its components with the Sonata. The Azera's primary competitors are the Toyota Avalon (which has been suggested as an inspiration for the Azera's styling), Ford Five Hundred, Chevrolet Impala, and Nissan Maxima.

Being a step up from the Sonata, the Azera is priced from $24,995 for a base model, $27,495 for the Limited version, and $29,995 for the Ultimate Package. The flagship Azera will be the most luxurious sedan Hyundai has ever marketed in North America, until 2007, when an all-new rear wheel drive luxury sedan is released under the Hyundai name to test the waters for a future luxury brand.

The Azera has a four-wheel independent suspension (multilink in the rear) and uses the company's new 3.8 L Lambda V6, which produces 263 hp (196 kW). The power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission with "Shiftronic" manual gear selection. Hyundai claims 6.5 s to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) and a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h). Fuel economy of 19 mpg (12.4 L/100 km) in the city and 28 mpg (8.4 L/100 km) on the highway is expected.

The Limited trim level adds 17 in alloy wheels, heated leather trimmed seats, and a power sun shade in the rear window. The Ultimate Package includes an enhanced audio system with 10 speakers and a 6 CD changer, a power sunroof, telescopic steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The Azera was named "Best New Family Car (over $35,000)" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.

Hyundai

The Hyundai Group (meaning "modern" in Korean), founded by Chung Ju-yung in 1947 as a construction company, was once South Korea's biggest conglomerate (chaebol). The company was split into five business entities on April 1, 2003 including Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Group, Hyundai Department Store Group and Hyundai Development Group.

Before restructuring began in 2000, Hyundai's major areas of activity included shipbuilding, car manufacture, construction, retailing, finance, and electronics. After its founder died in 2001, the component companies of Hyundai were split off into separate companies. Although divested of most of the high-profile Hyundai assets, the Hyundai Group still operates. Its most high-profile operation is Hyundai Asan, involved in numerous investment projects in North Korea. Other prominent assets include Hyundai Elevator, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Hyundai Logistics, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Corporation, Hyundai Construction and Hyundai Securities. The current CEO is Hyun Chung-eun, widow of the late chairman Chung Mong-hun. Hyundai is also known for the manufacturing of motor vehicles in several countries; the U. S. has been a source market for these cars.

The Hyundai logo is also symbolic of the company's desire to expand. The ovaloid shape indicates the company's global expansion and the slanted, stylized 'H' is symbolic of two people (specifically the company and customer) shaking hands.

In November of 2005, Hyundai pioneered a communications breakthrough by allowing Ed Voyles Hyundai in Smyrna, Georgia to become the first "deaf friendly" dealership in the entire world. The staff in this dealership are able to accomodate deaf customers with the use of American Sign Language and video conferencing phones. Unfortunately, automobile dealerships are not required to hire interpreters for customers, and Hyundai had the foresight to hire competent staff to accomodate the deaf and hearing impaired.
