Lista Masini -- > Dodge - Charger

In February 2005, Dodge introduced a new fullsize rear wheel drive Charger on the Chrysler LX platform also used by the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum (the interior of the Charger is almost identical to that of the Magnum). Also, it replaced the Dodge/Chrysler Intrepid. This 2006 model year car is a four-door sedan, disappointing fans of the previous two-door Chargers. It is built in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

The base engine (for the Charger SE and SXT) is Chrysler's 3.5 L V6 which produces 250 hp (186 kW) and 250 ft·lbf (339 N·m) of torque. This version of the car sells for US$22,995.

The Hemi R/T version uses the 5.7 L Hemi V8 and sells for US$29,995. This engine produces 340 hp (254 kW) and 390 ft·lbf (475 N·m) of torque. 65% of Charger buyers are opting for the Hemi-powered R/T model with an average sale price of $32,722. In 2005, Dodge announced a new Police Package version of the Charger with upgraded brakes and either the 3.5L or Hemi engine.

The 2006 Charger Daytona R/T debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. It features a High Output 350 hp (261 kW) version of the 5.7 L Hemi as well as an updated suspension and tires. Visual additions include a special front fascia with a chin spoiler. In a retro touch, the Daytona R/T features black "Hemi" decals on the hood and rear fender and is only available in two retro colors: "Go ManGo!" metallic orange (from the 1970 Charger) and Top Banana yellow (also a 1970-vintage color). It is priced at $32,495 and 8,000 will be produced for one year only. "TorRed" was announced as a new color in January 2006.

An SRT-8 version of the Charger debuted at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. Powered by a 425 hp (317 kW) version of the 6.1 L Hemi, it also features upgraded Brembo brakes, and interior and exterior updates. The engine produces 420 ft·lbf (569 N·m) of torque. This power rating makes the 2006 SRT-8 as powerful as the largest of the legendary Hemi engines of the muscle car era.

A new Super Bee version of the Charger debuted at the 2006 New York International Auto Show for the 2007 model year. It shares the SRT-8's 425 hp (317 kW) 6.1 L Hemi engine but comes in special "detonator yellow" paint with black decals.

Dodge

Dodge is a brand name of automobiles and light- to heavy-duty trucks, marketed by the Chrysler Corporation from 1928 to the present. Prior to 1928, the company was named Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. Dodge, like all other Chrysler subsidaries, is now part of German-based DaimlerChrysler AG after Daimler-Benz bought Chrysler in 1998.

In 1901 John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge moved their Dodge Brothers Bicycle & Machine Factory to Detroit, Michigan. In 1914 the Dodge Brothers started their own auto company, which they named the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. Early models had some similarities to the Ford Model T, but with such refinements as electric rather than crank start, as were becoming popular with the middle class. The new Dodge cars were a commercial success.

In 1925 the Dodge Brothers Company was purchased by Dillon, Read and Company for $146 million, said to be the largest cash transaction in history up to that time. Dillon Read in turn sold Dodge to the Chrysler Corporation on July 31, 1928.

Following Chrysler's takeover of the British Rootes Group and Simca of France, and the resultant establishment of Chrysler Europe in the late 1960s, the Dodge brand was used on light commercial vehicles previosuly branded Commer (a Rootes subsidiary) and on pick-up and van versions of the Simca 1100. The most common of these was the Dodge 50 series, widely used by utility companies and the military, but rarely seen outside the UK. Following Chrysler Europe's collapse in 1977, the Dodge factory and some rights to use the Dodge name in Europe were purchased by Renault, who gradually re-branded the range of vans and trucks through the 1980s, eventually dropping the name altogether and using the factory for engine production.

Dodge is now part of the DaimlerChrysler company. As of 2005, the Dodge brand has become known primarily for its trucks, which account for 78% of the division's sales. Dodge is attempting to change this with the introduction of the new Dodge Charger.

The Dodge marque will also be promoted in Europe. Currently, the Viper is the only Dodge-branded vehicle in that market, but DaimlerChrysler will begin to heavily advertise the brand's Caliber and Nitro models with a masculine image.
