Aston Martin unveiled the production version of its eagerly awaited V8 Vantage at the 2005 Geneva International Motor Show. First shown as a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the V8 Vantage immediately caused a worldwide sensation as it allows Aston Martin to enter a new sector of the premium sports car market with a genuine alternative to other cars that are currently on offer.    It will be built at Aston Martin’s Headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK, and completes the current Aston Martin line-up. This now comprises the flagship Vanquish S, the elegant DB9 and the agile V8 Vantage. The exterior of the V8 Vantage is beautiful and perfectly proportioned from every angle with a low purposeful stance. Each carefully detailed feature provides graphic evidence of the painstaking craftsmanship and quality, which is synonymous with the Aston Martin marque. The long bonnet and two-seater cabin creates an instantly recognizable stance, while minimal front and rear overhangs, combined with a wide track, appear to push the rear wheels out and enhance the extremities of the bodywork. At the rear a hatchback offers practicality not normally found in sports cars of this type. The V8 Vantage is a two-seater, with the rear environment offering a large luggage shelf area accessed by a tailgate. Inside, Aston Martin’s craftsmanship is matched to striking 21st century style. The dials are made from aluminium, and together with the switchgear have a very distinct design and unique Aston Martin look and feel. The V8 Vantage will be initially offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and other alternatives will be announced at a later date. A great deal of time and effort has been spent ensuring that the new transmission has a smooth and fast shift action to ensure its ultra close ratios can be used to maximum effect. Album foto

Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. este o companie britanica constructoare de automobile de lux cu sediul in Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire. Pana in 2003, Aston Martin a construit aproximativ 20 200 automobile. Astazi, compania este parte a Premier Automotive Group bransa a Ford Motor Company.

Aston Martin a fost fondat in 1913 de catre Lionel Martin si Robert Bamford. In 1922, ei produceau masini pentru a participa la cometitia Grand Prix din Franta, si pentru a stabili recorduri de viteza si anduranta. In 1936, compania, care se afla deja in proprietatea lui Sir Arthur Sutherland, si a decis sa iasa din gama masinilor de curse si sa construiasca si pentru sosele.

Primul autimobil cu numele de Aston Martin a fost construit de Lionel Martin in 1915. In 1919 a aparut al doilea model Aston Martin, insa productia lui a intrat in lucru abia in 1920.

In perioada dintre razboaiele mondiale, compania a trecut de la un proprietar la altul, reusind totodata sa construiasca o serie de automobile pentru a participa la cursele Grand Prix.

In 1947, David Brown Limited a cumparat compania, moment de rascruce si o era noua in istoria Aston Martin. Deja in 1948, in baza modelului Atom apare primul model DB. In proprietatea lui Brawn de asemenea venise si marca Lagonda, motorul careia a trecut la Aston Martin. In total au fost construite 15 masini marca Aston Martin - Logonda DB1.

In 1950 a avut loc lansarea DB-2 cu un motor de 2,6 litri si o putere de 105 CP.

In 1959, Aston Martin prezinta modelul DB-4 dotat cu un motor din aluminiu, cu sase cilndri si cu o putere de 240 CP. Cu un design destul de indraznet, acest model a devenit cel mai de succes din categoria "gand-turismo". Impresionantul model DBS cu patru locuri, putea atinge viteza de 240 km/h. Au urmat DB5 in 1963, DB6 in 1965, iar putin mai tirziu DBS si DBS Vantage capabile sa genereze o putere de 450 CP.

Gama modelelor Aston Martin, Vantage si Volante, este completata in 1988 cu un cupe nou Virage.

Sub egida Ford, apare noul DB7 care in scurt timp devine una dintre cele mai reusite marci ale companiei.

Pina astazi, masinile Aston Martin se construiesc in aceleasi ambare ca si acum o suta de ani, in Newport Pagnell.
