The Hommell Berlinette is a mid engined space framed sports coupe which uses a tranverse mounted Pug engine and gearbox. The rear suspension is based upon the 405 front suspension. When production began they used a 405Mi16 engine and a Citroen motorsport six speed gearbox. After the 306GTi6 was released, they started using the GTi6 engine and gearbox. Gilles Dupré, editor-in-chief of the French automobile magazine Echappement and Michel Hommell has teamed up during the early 1990s to create the 21th century Alpine.
The result was the Berlinette, launched in 1994. This low-volume rear-wheel-drive 2-seater sportscar is now feared to disappear from the scene as the tiny outfit can't cope with the stringent environmental regulations.
