Nanhai Fudi was set up in 1996 but by 2001 it was on the verge of bankruptcy. Private investors stepped in and turned around the company.
It now employs over 2000 people. Although it has its own line of Isuzu-derived pick-up trucks and SUVs, but it is better known as supplier of bodies to various companies all over the country. In 2003 over 60,000 bodies were produced.
In March, 2005 a new facility was opened which enables the company to produce 50,000 complete vehicles and 300,000 bodies yearly.
