Auto China 2006: Skoda Octavia designed for China

Skoda Auto is officially presenting the Octavia model designed for the Chinese market at the International Automobile Salon in Peking. In addition to the current range of products, the visitor to the Automobile Salon can also get to know the more than one hundred year history and tradition of the brand.

In addition to the Octavia, Škoda Auto will also be presenting further models from the production program on a space of 700 m2 :

- the Skoda Roomster
- the Skoda Octavia RS
- the Skoda Octavia Scout
- the Skoda Superb L&K

The design study, Yeti, will also be on display at the stand as will be the historical model, the Škoda Superb 3000.

The cooperation contract between Shanghai Volkswagen and Škoda Auto was signed on 11th April 2005. Work commenced in March 2006 with the official development of the sales and service organisation of SVW Škoda. Production of the Škoda Octavia will commence at the beginning of 2007 in Shanghai followed later by the production of the Fabia and Superb model ranges. Following the signing of the cooperation contract, the start of production of the Octavia is the next step taken by Škoda, to establish the brand on the growing Chinese market.



All three model ranges of the Škoda brand (Fabia, Octavia, and Superb) will be produced in the factories of Shanghai Volkswagen for the local markets. The sales, service and customer care will be provided through the exclusive Škoda dealer network which is currently in the process of being developed. .

The Chairman of the Board of Škoda Auto, Detlef Wittig, stated in regard to this: „We regard China as being one of the strategic markets fro the future development of the Škoda brand. With the official presentation of the Octavia model and with the pending production start, a new position for the Škoda brand in China is being created.”

The licensed production in China is a component of the growth strategy of Škoda, the scope of which encompasses assembly projects in the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India and, in future, Russia. The implementation of the growth strategy, including the production in China, is an important step on the path towards establishing Škoda as an international volume manufacturer.

In 2006 Škoda plans to supply more than 530,000 vehicles to customers on more than 90 markets throughout the world and thus continue the growth trend of the previous year. With this result, Škoda will once again set anew record for sales in its company history.
