German Grand Prix: Mark Webber - the best at the second training session (VIDEO)
Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- The second part of training sessions marked the final fight in the race - with the best rates at the Nurburgring came Red Bull and Ferrari.
After a lengthy exchange of fast laps, Webber managed to win the first protocol line.
In the second practice, forecasters were wrong again about the rain.
But that did not stop pilots be consistently wrong in the first shortened corner, after starting the line.
First, the ex-world champion, Lewis Hamilton, had no time to brake and went right through it, and then it beautifully spun the Team Lotus driver, debutant Karun Chandhok.
After some minutes, the engine of Daniel Ricardo from HRT F1 broke, so, he finished the workout with a burnt engine.
But the top teams pilots, almost immediately, from the installation laps, showed the fastest time and Fernando Alonso stood up the first on the list, again, being followed by Webber, Vettel and Massa.
The results were slightly lower than in the first practice, but within 1:32.
In this training, the Russian Vitaly Petrov, who performs for the Renault team, sat in the pits for a long time, but, after he had appeared on the track, managed to score 1:34 and this result launched him on the 4th protocol line. The Renault team could not work out the first training session due to the fact that they decided to test the new-old exhaust system, designed back in the 011 year, but left for later.
The team decided to present it on the combat car in Germany, but Vitali turned out to be too heavy for the new item, and they had to change it during the workout.
Nick Heidfeld, also, failed to show a good result due to an updated exhaust, thus, the engineers had to search for a quick alternative during break.
Similar problems occured for Jenson Button of McLaren - a new rear spoiler did not work properly and the team had to go back to the old configuration.
Meanwhile, Felipe Massa managed to get ahead of his partner and showed a result of 1:32.466.
Petrov was also able to accelerate and rose to the 4th place with a score of 1:33.760.
Mercedes had problems, as well - Rosberg's GPS system failed, and Schumacher was warned about speeding too much in some corners.
40 minutes before the end of the workout, Alonso increased the speed limit once again - 1:31.897.
It should be noted that riders were on the test set of Pirelli tires, which the manufactures had asked drivers to test for the future.
Returning to the more traditional soft set, the pilots began to raise the results again, including Mark Webber who got ahead of the Ferrari pilots.
Michael Schumacher showed the 4th result, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta - 6th and 7th (both - Force India).
Monitors were showing complete lack of rain, the asphalt temperature was much higher than the air temperature - +24 vs. +15 degreees, technicians and the audience were wrapped in coats.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel, who sat in boxes for long, immediately after the release on the track, pushed back Massa from the third place.
10 minutes before the end, Michael Schumacher abruptly closed the path of Fernando Alonso, who was on the fastest lap, and did not let the latter urgently brake by locking the wheels and "flying" into the gravel.
But this incident passed without breakdowns or accidents.
Actually, the second training session again ended with the dominance of Ferrari and Red Bull, only now Webber was on the first line, and Alonso on the second.
The third was Vettel and Massa on fourth place, the Mercedes pilots pushed back the McLaren racers.
