Lotus competes with Porsche Cayman S
Lotus Company reported official information about the new sport car, which meanwhile has the name Eagle. This fore engine car with the back formula “2+2” will be presented next at the London motorshow, but its official sell begins in the spring of 2009. Concerning about its price it will cost 45-50 thousand pounds sterling, Lotus Eagle will be the direct competitor of the coupe Porsche Cayman S.
As the British magazine Autocar informs, the new version Lotus is powered by 3,5 liters V6 engine, borrowed from Toyota Camry. Its power wasn’t altered – 280 hp, however Lotus engineers supplied the Japanese engine with a new control unit, getting a “more sportive character”. Moreover, Eagle will be equipped with six transmissions Toyota, and specially for Lotus a new mechanism for gear shift and modern adhesion.
As a result, Lotus Eagle gathers the speed of 100 km/h in 5 seconds, and its highest speed is about 260 km/h. About the wheelbase Eagle will be with 275 mm longer than Elise. Car’s weight, due to the aluminum detals, constitutes only 1400 kg.
The planned production of the sportcar Lotus Eagle will be by 2 to 5 thousand cars for a year.
