New Audi models for the athletes of the DSV
At the official fitting out of the German Ski Association (DSV) at the “Adolf Würth Airport” in Schwäbisch Hall the athletes of the DSV today received their new models from premium partner Audi. This winter the various Audi models again clearly distinguish themselves as members of the German team by their colour of Misan red.
“Sportiness, coupled with comfort and absolute fitness for everyday use – these are properties valued by the winter athletes,” said Josef Schelchshorn, Head of Human Resources of Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, at the hand-over. Hence the Audi A4 Avant fitted with a 3.0-litre TDI engine is the favourite vehicle. Felix Neureuther, Magdalena Neuner, Michael Greis, Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle and Tobias Angerer are only some of the drivers of the popular model. Kati Wilhelm and René Sommerfeldt – like Alpine Sports Director Wolfgang Maier – opted for an Audi Q7, Maria Riesch for an Audi RS6, and World Cup winner Ronny Ackermann drives an A6 Avant.

Harmonising efficiency and performance is one of the big technical challenges which Audi tackles anew on a daily basis. How successfully this is achieved was impressively demonstrated to the DSV athletes during the so-called “hot laps” while sitting in Mike Rockenfeller’s passenger seat. The DTM driver and champion of the new Le Mans Series (LMS) chauffeured the guests around the airfield in an Audi R8 and an Audi RS 6 at racing speed.
In everyday life the 24-year-old racer proceeds at a slower pace. Low consumption and high performance has never been a contradiction for the engineers at Audi – hence the sportscar scene’s shooting star manages to drive his R10 TDI sportscar with equal sportiness and efficiency. The winter athletes received some first-hand tips on how to accomplish this from Mike Rockenfeller and can find many more in a flyer in which AUDI AG provides practical recommendations for saving fuel in everyday driving.
The partnership between Audi and the DSV has now been spanning more than two decades and was extended prematurely last year by another three years up to and including the 2010/2011 season. In addition to the DSV, Audi supports the alpine national teams from Sweden, Finland, France, Liechtenstein, Italy as well as the athletes from Austria and the United States. At the World Ski Championship in Val d’Isère next February Audi will again present itself – as before at the competitions in St. Moritz and Bormio – as Presenting Sponsor.
