The biggest Cadillac will be built in 2015
Chișinău / Moldova.ORG/ -- General Motors are back to thinking about the idea of building a new flagship sedan for the Cadillac brand.
Officially, the project has not yet been given green light, but insiders report that the biggest Cadillac will enter the market after 2015.
The fact that a completely new rear-drive platform for Cadillac is developing in the depths of General Motors, known under the heading of "Omega", was reported several months ago.
This week, sources of the GMInside portal confirmed that the company actually intends to release a new flagship sedan on this platform.
It is expected that in the process of creating the platform, there will be widely used cutting-edge technologies and materials, as well as aluminum.
"Omega" is partly based on previously developed Zeta platform, which is used in some Chevrolet models, including Camaro.
It is still completely unknown when the new Cadillac rear-drive flagship will enter the market - different sources call different numbers, from 2015 to 2017.
Most likely, the future innovation will replace the XTS sedan, which premier is scheduled for the end of this year. It will be considered as the brand's flagship up to the point when the new model, which development was approved this week, will enter the market.
The respective luxurious rear-wheel drive sedan will get a few eight-cylinder enginesof the upgraded Small Block family.
It is expected to be a Mercedes-Benz S-Class type competitor, "but luxury features and appointments are to be more along the lines of a Rolls Royce and/or Maybach - but priced closer to its competition (Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series, etcetera)", according to the Cadillac forum.
Also, there is certain possibility of launching hybrid versions, but the diesel version emergence is very unlikely.
