Volvo set to boost car sales in Russia by 42% to 30,000 in 2008
Swedish auto giant Volvo said on Wednesday it intends to boost car sales in Russia by 42.3% year-on-year in 2008 to 30,000 vehicles.
Volvo Car Russia President David Thomas said the company's sales in the country grew 95.1% year-on-year in 2007 to more than 21,000 cars.
"The XC90 cross country vehicle topped the Russian rating of Volvo sales in 2007. This is Volvo's most sellable model both in Russia and across the globe. Volvo sold over 6,000 XC90 vehicles in Russia in 2007, a more than twofold increase on 2006. These cars accounted for 29.2% of Volvo car sales in Russia," Thomas said.
Thomas also said Volvo intended to present its new XC60 crossover vehicle in August.
The new model, which is expected to go into production in late 2008, will be equipped with Volvo's new City Safe safety system that helps a driver to avoid or minimize damage from low-speed rear-impact accidents. If a driver fails to react quickly enough to another vehicle that is slowing down, the car will automatically begin to brake. // RIA "Novosti"
