Opel announces improved engines for Astra range
|
Ruesselsheim, Germany (dpa) - Opel has refined the third generation of the Astra range with improved engines that offer more performance and fuel economy.
Customers now have a choice of 11 engines in the range of between 90 and 240 hp.
The new 1.6 ECOTEC engine with an output of 85 kW/115 hp is fitted with a five-gear Easytronic transmission that brings fuel consumption down to 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres.
A new 1.6 turbo 132 kW/180 hp engine replaces the 2-litre 125 kW/170 hp motor. Fuel consumption is 13 per cent lower at 7.7  litres per 100 kilometres, the car maker says.
Two new diesel engines have been fitted with Common-Rail injection, twin valve technology and service free particulate filters. The 1.7 CDTI engines have an output of 81 kW/110 hp and 92 kW/125 hp.
Since its debut in March 2004, some 1.2 million units of the third generation Astra have been sold, the manufacturer says. The new Astra will celebrate its launch at the Bologna Motor Show until December 17 and will be on sale on European markets from next February. // © 2006 DPA |
